Police summon Emir Sanusi over alleged violation of Durbar ban during Sallah

The Nigeria Police Force has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning in connection with an alleged violation of a police directive restricting Durbar activities during the recent Sallah celebration.
An official invitation dated April 4, 2025, signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, directed Emir Sanusi to appear before the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Security agencies had earlier imposed a ban on Durbar activities citing safety concerns during the festive period. Despite the directive, Emir Sanusi was reported to have led Durbar processions and paid a courtesy visit to the Kano Government House. Although the traditional horse ride was omitted, the Emir’s entourage reportedly attracted large crowds while moving in vehicles.
In a related development, a 20-year-old man, Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, was arrested for allegedly being involved in the killing and assault of vigilante members within the Emir’s entourage after Eid prayers on March 30, 2025.
The Kano State Police Command has also invited the Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding a possible violation of the police directive.
The investigations are ongoing as security agencies work to unravel the full details surrounding the incidents.
