Two young men, Opeyemi Ibrahim and Dimeji Bakare, were arrested on January 13, 2025, for attempting to purchase goods with fake bank transfer alerts. The suspects, both lacking legitimate sources of income, were apprehended after attempting to fraudulently buy clothing worth ₦220,000.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, which confirmed the complaint was lodged by Christopher Chukwuma, a resident of Ijebu North Local Government Area.
Further investigation showed that one of the suspects, Bakare, had a history of similar fraudulent activity, having previously purchased generators worth ₦140,000 in 2023 using fake transfers.
The suspects were arrested along with the fraudulent items, and an investigation is ongoing.
They will be charged in court once the probe is completed.
