Policeman allegedly shoots corps member dead in Oyo State

A trigger-happy policeman, identified as Saheed SARS, has allegedly shot a corps member, Iyanda Damilola dead in a tragic incident in Ogbomoso Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The policeman, Saheed is said to be an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Oyo State Police Command.

Iyanda Oluwafemi, a graduate of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), sustained bullet wounds from the shooting and he is currently receiving treatment.

Narrating the horrific incident to Punch, Oluwafemi, a graduate of Accounting and Management Sciences from LAUTECH, said the tragic incident happened after their convocation ceremony.

“Yesterday was our convocation, and we were at a lounge (name withheld) for a convocation party around 2 am when we heard that some people were fighting outside.

“When we discovered that the place was getting rowdy, we stepped out only to see policemen dispersing the crowd and shooting directly at the people,” Oluwafemi recounted.

“I sustained bullet wounds, but my brother, who came for my convocation, was shot in the head. He was confirmed dead at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and was taken to the mortuary this morning,” Oluwafemi continued, still in shock over the incident.

“As I speak with you, I am at the clinic for my treatment. The wounds are deep, and I can not but seek justice for my innocent brother,” he added, his voice laden with grief.

Oluwafemi confirmed that Saheed SARS led the police operation, further stating, “I saw him handling the gun; he was shooting with one hand until he shot my brother.”

“This isn’t the first time Saheed has been under scrutiny. He is widely recognized by the students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, for his assaults, particularly targeting “Yahoo boys.”

“In 2020, he faced heavy criticism on social media platforms after reportedly posing with a white Mercedes-Benz car he claimed to have bought.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. “Investigation is ongoing. Updates would be provided accordingly, please,” he stated in a text message.
