A coalition of political parties in Osun State has passed a vote of confidence in the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, commending his neutrality and professionalism ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The parties, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Wednesday and signed by the Osun State Chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Hon. Oluseye Odesola, on behalf of other political parties, praised the commission’s conduct in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the build-up to the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Odesola noted that INEC officials in the state have displayed a high level of professionalism since the commencement of the voter registration exercise.

The parties particularly commended Agboke for what they described as early and unprecedented voter sensitisation efforts across the state.

According to Odesola, Agboke has treated all party chairmen with respect and has assured stakeholders of his commitment to being an unbiased umpire in the forthcoming election.

“We wish to pass a vote of confidence in him, and we believe that the Osun governorship election shall be a model for other states in the country. We are solidly behind him because of the trust we have in him.

“We can vouch for Agboke’s integrity to conduct a free, fair, transparent and credible election on August 15. We have searched and found nothing implicating him.

“We want to implore the people of Osun to get ready for this election and be prepared to participate in it, as it is their civic duty to choose whoever they wish to lead them,” the statement read.
