Presidency congratulates Eze Anaba, new Guild of Editors’ President

…wants media to promote good governance, national stability
The Presidency has congratulated Eze Anaba on his election as the new President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
In a statement issued by Mr. Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, the Presidency commended the peaceful and rancor-free conduct of the NGE’s elections and expressed confidence in Mr. Anaba’s leadership abilities.
“The last Biennial Convention of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) was an epochal milestone in the evolution of the journalism profession in Nigeria. An event that witnessed the election of new officers of the Guild to guide the affairs of the organization for the next two years, it is most gratifying that the outcome was successful and rancor-free despite the intensity of the contest for the various positions competed for,” the statement read.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also emphasized the role of the media in promoting good governance and national stability.
“The challenges ahead of the media in playing its role towards strengthening our democracy, keeping power continually in check, as well as promoting good, responsible, and accountable governance are greater than the paths traversed before,” the statement added.
The Presidency pledged its support to the media, working in collaboration with them, to achieve these objectives in the best interest of the country. It highlighted the need for the media to fulfill its constitutional obligation as a watchdog of the people and contribute to the overall progress and development of Nigeria.
“The larger picture is to ensure at all times that we place the profession in prime position to continually fulfill its constitutional obligation of serving as a watchdog of the people in checking the excesses of government and promoting the greatest good of the greatest number of our people,” the statement emphasized.
He expressed confidence that under his leadership, the Nigerian Guild of Editors would contribute significantly to the advancement of journalism in Nigeria and play a crucial role in promoting good governance, stability, and the well-being of the Nigerian people.
