Presidency counters Kwankwaso, lists federal projects in Northern Nigeria

By Kunle Sanni –
Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has dismissed claims by former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, that the North has been neglected under the current administration.
Responding via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Dare, a former Minister of Youth and Sports, asserted that President Tinubu “has the North covered,” pointing to numerous ongoing and completed federal projects across the region.
“Senator Kwankwaso, you are wrong. The North is not neglected. Northern Nigeria is not left behind,” Dare posted, highlighting progress in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, healthcare, and transportation.
Key Highlights from Dare’s List:
Roads & Highways: Over 20 major road projects are underway or undergoing rehabilitation, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway, Sokoto–Badagry Highway, and the Kano–Maiduguri dual carriageway.
Agriculture: Projects like the $158.15 million Agricultural Value Chain Programme and the ACReSAL initiative are restoring degraded land and enhancing climate resilience in northern states.
Healthcare: The expansion and revitalization of major teaching hospitals and the rehabilitation of 1,000 primary health centres are ongoing across the North.
Energy & Gas: Major infrastructure developments include the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, the Gwagwalada Power Plant, and the 50MW ABIBA Solar Power Station in Kaduna.
Rail & Metro: Strategic rail projects such as the Kaduna–Kano, Kano–Maradi lines, and the rehabilitation of the Abuja metro system are in progress.
Environmental and Economic Projects: National agencies like the Great Green Wall and NEWMAP have renewed efforts to combat desertification and erosion across northern Nigeria.
Dare emphasized that all these accomplishments have been recorded within President Tinubu’s first two years in office, describing them as a testament to the administration’s strong commitment to the region.
