Presidency denies report of Babangida rejecting BOA appointment

By Kunle Sanni –

The Presidency has dismissed as false a viral letter claiming that Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, rejected his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

An image of the letter, dated July 21, 2025, and purportedly signed by Babangida, had circulated on social media. The letter appeared on personal letterhead and cited “a convergence of personal and professional considerations” as the reason for declining the appointment.

It also claimed Babangida expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the nomination and pledged continued support for the administration’s vision of national development.

However, in a post shared Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Presidential Villa described the letter as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard the claim.

“Please disclaim it a fake news,” the Presidency stated, distancing the administration from the content and source of the letter.

President Tinubu had appointed Muhammed Babangida as BOA chairman last week as part of a major shake-up of federal agency leadership.

Babangida’s appointment was one of several made by the President to reposition strategic institutions for improved performance and efficiency.
