President Tinubu anticipated U.S. moves, says Onanuga

By Kunle Sanni –

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has said the Nigerian leader was “well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America.”

His remarks followed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing alleged persecution of Christians in the country. Trump further warned that the United States could cut off aid to Nigeria and “go in guns blazing” to eliminate what he described as Islamic terrorists targeting Christians.

Several right-wing U.S. lawmakers, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, have also accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from attacks.

Reacting to the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onanuga said President Tinubu had already taken decisive steps to strengthen national security before the U.S. statements emerged.

“President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America, as he told the new service chiefs on Thursday what Nigerians expect of them,” Onanuga wrote. “No more excuses, he said. Nigerians want results.”
