President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the new Managing Director of Ajaokuta Steel Company, effective April 3, 2025.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Until his new role, Abdulsalam served as Technical Adviser to the Minister of Steel Development and previously as Special Assistant (Academics) to the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
President Tinubu urged the new MD to draw on his extensive experience in the steel sector to reposition Ajaokuta Steel Company as a major player in Nigeria’s industrialization drive.
“The President expects Mr. Abdulsalam to drive upstream and downstream activities in the steel sector that will position Nigeria as Africa’s industrial hub, in line with the diversification goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.
The appointment was made in accordance with the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, 2008 (as amended).
Ajaokuta Steel Company remains central to Nigeria’s ambition to build a self-reliant industrial base and stimulate economic growth through the development of its steel industry.
