President Bola Tinubu arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, late Friday evening to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, which begins on January 27.

The President touched down at 10:20 p.m. local time (8:20 p.m. Nigerian time) and was received by the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, along with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian High Commission in Tanzania, Amb. Salisu Suleiman.

The two-day summit, co-hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union (AU), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the World Bank, will bring together African leaders and key stakeholders to advance the Mission 300 initiative.

The programme aims to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

On the summit’s first day, ministers from participating countries, including Nigeria, will present national energy strategies—referred to as compacts—detailing their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

The event will culminate on the second day with African Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap for achieving the objectives of Mission 300.

President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a national statement during the summit, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to expanding energy access and highlighting the country’s clean energy initiatives and strategies for driving integrated energy solutions across Africa.

The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; and Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy. Other senior government officials are also part of the team.

The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit is expected to set a decisive course for Africa’s energy future as the continent works to address critical energy gaps and promote sustainable development.
