President Tinubu celebrates public health icon Gabriel Osuide at 90

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Professor Gabriel Ediale Osuide, a distinguished pharmacist, academic, and public health pioneer, on his 90th birthday, celebrated on March 15, 2025.

Recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to pharmaceutical education, drug regulation, and public health in Nigeria, Professor Osuide played a pivotal role in establishing the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and shaping pharmacy education curricula at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and the University of Benin.

President Tinubu praised Professor Osuide for his lifelong dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s drug regulatory framework, fostering excellence in pharmaceutical sciences, and mentoring generations of professionals in the field.

“Professor Osuide has shaped the foundation of pharmacy education and drug administration in Nigeria. His unwavering commitment to academic excellence, institutional reforms, and public service inspires all. His leadership in safeguarding the health of Nigerians through rigorous drug regulation remains a cornerstone of our national development,” Tinubu stated.

As Nigeria’s first Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Osuide was instrumental in setting high standards for drug safety, pharmaceutical innovation, and regulatory oversight. His efforts in advancing international collaborations in drug research have positioned Nigeria as a leader in pharmaceutical sciences and public health innovation.

Beyond his regulatory work, Professor Osuide’s contributions to higher education have helped shape a new generation of pharmacists, researchers, and health professionals, ensuring sustainable progress in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
