President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo on his inauguration as the Governor of Edo State.

In his message, President Tinubu urged Governor Okpebholo to work diligently to improve the lives of the people of Edo State and to make a lasting impact during his tenure.

Following his victory in the state governorship election on September 21, 2024, Okpebholo has officially succeeded former governor Godwin Obaseki. Reflecting on the transition, President Tinubu noted that, after eight years under Obaseki’s administration, Edo State is now returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of Governor Okpebholo justifying the confidence placed in him and the APC, calling for true democracy and effective governance throughout the state. He encouraged Okpebholo to empower the Legislature and other key government institutions, stressing that a strong and independent legislative body is essential for achieving good governance.

Expressing concerns, the President criticized the previous administration’s attempts to undermine the Legislature, which limited its effectiveness for much of its tenure.

President Tinubu also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a successful election in Edo State, encouraging the Commission to aim for even greater excellence in the upcoming Ondo Governorship Election on November 16, 2024.

He celebrated this moment as a new chapter in Edo State’s democratic journey, rejoicing with the people of Edo on this significant occasion.
