President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s full commitment to building a modern, well-trained, and well-equipped Nigeria Police Force capable of effectively responding to the country’s internal security challenges.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inaugural National Police Day celebration held on April 7, 2025, at Eagle Square, Abuja, the President announced that the date would now be observed annually to honor fallen heroes and recognize the efforts of police personnel across the country.
“We are resolute in our commitment to police welfare and comprehensive reform,” Tinubu said. “A secure Nigeria is vital for our collective prosperity, and this vision begins with ensuring that our police force is well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated.”

The President outlined key measures being taken to boost police morale and efficiency, including the provision of modern tools and technologies, improved housing and healthcare for officers, and better access to quality education for their children.
“These promises will begin to materialize immediately. Your salaries and benefits will reflect the gravity of your responsibilities. Anything less would be unacceptable,” he declared.

President Tinubu described the police as the nation’s first line of defense against crime, emphasizing their role as protectors of democracy and custodians of citizens’ safety. He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would “leave no stone unturned” in addressing issues such as banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency.
He praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for driving reforms that align with his administration’s goals, stating that the leadership of the force is paving the way for a police system Nigerians can trust and be proud of.

In his remarks, Inspector-General Egbetokun said National Police Day goes beyond mere celebration, providing an opportunity to honor fallen officers and renew the force’s commitment to professionalism, human rights, and excellence.
