President Tinubu commends Google CEO for advancing AI, digital transformation in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has praised Google CEO Sundar Pichai for the company’s commitment to advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation in Nigeria.
During a meeting with the Google team in Paris on Wednesday, President Tinubu, accompanied by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, discussed a strategic partnership to accelerate Nigeria’s technological growth.
The partnership aims to position Nigeria as a leading technology and innovation hub, leveraging AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure to boost economic growth and global competitiveness.
Key focus areas of the collaboration include:
- Expanding digital infrastructure across the country
- Equipping the workforce with essential digital skills
- Promoting AI-driven research and innovation
- Encouraging cloud adoption across industries
- Establishing Nigeria as a major player in the global digital economy
President Tinubu emphasized that this initiative aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic diversification through industrialization, technology, and innovation.
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will provide strategic oversight, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will lead implementation efforts in collaboration with the private sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated the company’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation.
“Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth,” Pichai stated.
Dr. Bosun Tijani described the partnership as a major step toward accelerating Nigeria’s technological advancement, ensuring that AI and digital transformation deliver tangible benefits to businesses and citizens.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that attracts global tech investments.
He acknowledged Nigeria’s potential as a rising global technology hub and commended Google’s ongoing contributions to the country’s digital ecosystem.
