President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated a cutting-edge Data Complex at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant step toward improving the nation’s security and technological infrastructure.

The complex, named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex, features several critical components, including a Command and Control Centre, Visa Approval Centre, ECOWAS Biometric Card Production Centre, Passport Personalisation Centre, and a solar-powered data facility.

Speaking during the inauguration, Tinubu highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to bolster national security and drive economic opportunities.

“It is a great pleasure to commission this state-of-the-art technology innovation complex at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters. From the beginning of our administration, we promised to deliver innovative solutions across all sectors, including the NIS. Today, we have achieved that goal and are making tremendous progress,” the President stated.

The President emphasized the role of the complex in creating a sustainable communication architecture, linking relevant agencies with collaborative technology on a trusted information network.

“Our Visa Approval Centre will provide a one-stop shop for visa applications, ensuring ease of travel and business partnerships. With this facility, Nigeria is embracing innovation to drive processes that benefit over 200 million people and reinforce our position as a leader in Africa,” he added.

“By reimagining our immigration system and air travel processes, we stand to benefit greatly from the economic opportunities they offer. Ease of entry and exit will boost tourism and international partnerships,” he noted.

The President further reiterated the need to treat passports as vital security documents, not just travel documents, underscoring their significance in global operations.
