President Tinubu joins global leaders at G20 Summit, focuses on hunger, poverty

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu joined global leaders on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the opening of the 2024 G20 Summit.

The summit, which commenced with discussions on pressing global challenges, opened with a session dedicated to tackling hunger and poverty.

As part of the summit’s agenda, G20 leaders officially launched the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, urging member nations and other stakeholders to increase financial investments and share expertise to foster sustainable human development.

This initiative aims to accelerate global efforts to eradicate hunger and alleviate poverty, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.

President Tinubu is expected to address the summit, sharing Nigeria’s perspective on the critical issues of hunger and poverty.

His remarks will likely focus on strengthening international cooperation, mobilizing resources, and improving living standards worldwide.

Other notable attendees at the summit include U.S. President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others.

The discussions at the 2024 G20 Summit are anticipated to shape global policies and initiatives aimed at reducing inequalities, improving living conditions, and ensuring sustainable development for all.
