President Tinubu urges selflessness, piety as Ramadan begins

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, President Bola Tinubu has called on the Muslim Ummah to embrace selflessness, piety, and compassion while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to easing economic challenges.

In a statement on Friday, Tinubu described Ramadan as a time for deep reflection, renewed devotion to Allah, and acts of generosity toward humanity. He urged Nigerians to strengthen their bonds with one another and promote unity and peace.

“Ramadan is a season of spiritual rejuvenation, self-discipline, and empathy for the less fortunate,” he said. “Let us use this period to foster unity and peace in our communities.”

The President noted that this year’s Ramadan holds added significance as it coincides with a period of “renewed hope and progress” for the country. He pointed to recent economic improvements, including the stabilization of the exchange rate, declining fuel prices, and a downward trend in food costs—factors he believes will provide relief to fasting Muslims and all Nigerians.

“The Gross Domestic Product for the last quarter of 2024 showed a marked improvement over the same period in 2023,” Tinubu stated. “The once-soaring prices of essential food items are now declining, providing much-needed relief to our fasting population and all Nigerians.”

Looking ahead, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his government remains committed to boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security. With the rainy season approaching, he promised increased support for farmers through mechanization, targeted input distribution, and innovative farming initiatives.

“As the wet season approaches, we remain steadfast in boosting agricultural productivity,” he said. “Our resolve to build a resilient and prosperous nation remains unwavering.”

The President also called for national unity, urging Nigerians to use the sacred month to pray for the country’s continued growth and development.

“I extend my heartfelt wishes to all Muslims observing Ramadan for a month filled with joy, peace, and spiritual renewal,” he said.
