President Tinubu welcomes two defecting senators to APC

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally received two senators who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers — Senator Kaila Samaila Dahuwa of Bauchi North and Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North — were presented to the President at the State House, Abuja, by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, Akpabio said the senators’ decision to join the APC was driven by patriotism and a shared commitment to national development.
“They are joining the President in his vision to rebuild Nigeria,” Akpabio said. “They are not interested in political labels but in who can truly deliver progress for the nation.”
Senator Dahuwa, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier announced his decision on the floor of the Senate, citing internal crises within the PDP as a major obstacle to effective legislative performance.
He said his move to the APC was motivated by confidence in President Tinubu’s reform agenda and the party’s stability, which he believes will enable him to better serve his constituents.
“We are joining as patriotic Nigerians to move the country forward,” Dahuwa stated. “The President is doing very well economically, and we want to be part of this winning team.”
Senator Jarigbe, who also defected from the PDP, expressed support for the Tinubu administration, saying his decision was based on conviction rather than politics.
