Prevail on Adeleke to halt LG election -APC chieftain urges President Tinubu

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to prevail on Governor Ademola Adeleke to halt the Local Government election scheduled for Saturday.
The former lawmaker argued that, with no vacancies in the local councils, holding the election would be an aberration.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said the President’s intervention was necessary due to the potential violence that could arise from conducting the election.
He suggested that the State Government take the matter to the Supreme Court if dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s judgment, rather than risk escalating tensions.
Oyintiloye said the deaths of six people in different council areas in the state on Monday, along with numerous injuries, were strong reasons why the election should not be conducted.
He appealed to the State Government not to endanger the lives of residents for political reasons.
He commended the quick and effective intervention of security agencies in restoring peace to the state.
“I want to appeal to the President to prevail on Governor Adeleke not to go ahead with the election for security reasons. All we want in the state is peace, and anything that can jeopardize the peaceful atmosphere should be avoided. Presently, there is no vacuum in any of the 30 council areas in the state due to the Court of Appeal’s judgment that reinstated the APC chairmen and councillors.
“Governor Adeleke must protect the tenets of democracy and respect the rule of law that brought him to power. Since it is the constitutional responsibility of any government to protect lives and property, the State Government should avoid anything that could lead to bloodshed. President Bola Tinubu should prevail on Adeleke and make him see the reasons why the election cannot be held,” Oyintiloye said.
He assured that APC members in the state would continue to embrace peace and support all constitutional arrangements for protecting lives and property in the state.
