Pro-Adeleke group urges Ribadu to enforce Tinubu’s directive on Osun poll

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has called on National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to enforce President Bola Tinubu’s directive that security agencies deployed for Saturday’s governorship election remain neutral, protect voters and ensure a peaceful poll.

In a statement issued on Friday, TICC spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said Tinubu had directed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and other heads of security agencies participating in the election to provide maximum security at polling units and protect voters.

According to the council, the directive needed to be emphasised, particularly to the police, which it alleged had not discharged its responsibilities with professional neutrality in recent months.

“The Imole Campaign Council calls on the police to obey the presidential order and discharge their duties dispassionately on Saturday,” the statement said.

The council also called on Ribadu to ensure that security agencies comply with the directive, urging police officers not to pay lip service to the president’s order.

Olajengbesi said voters must be protected and polling units guarded, while anyone causing trouble should be arrested regardless of political affiliation.

The council further said Tinubu had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a transparent, free and fair election, stressing that votes must count.

Meanwhile, the campaign council urged Osun residents to come out and vote for their preferred candidates, while seeking support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom it said had demonstrated capacity and empathy over the past four years.
