Profit from agony: The church moral decline, by Adewale Adeoye

It was a good thing Senator Babafemi Ojudu had the courage to write on that shameful incidence at Anglican Church, Ise Ekiti.

A woman died and the whole event was turned into Stock Exchange by the presiding Anglican Church Minister, who called for endless donations until mourners protested and walked out of the Church.

The local Anglican Church branch in its response already came up with a report of their findings, yet they claim they have set up “Investigation.”

The findings tried to defend the Alufa, eventhough the Church claimd it ad set up investigation team.

It’s unfortunate that there is moral low everywhere, including the Church and to even come to defend this criminal and UnGodly conduct is ridiculous.

Depressed relations and friends of a dead woman whose corpse was brought into the Church for prayers were tasked to donate and in the process, the Children gave money, money after money, 100k, 200k, which the Pastor said was not enough. Senator Ojudu came to the rescue to add to the donations, not satisfied, the turn around forced enraged mourners to stage a walk out.

I was born and raised in the Anglican Church, my father being a Rt Rev and contemporary of Bishop Abiodun Adetiloye.

When my father died, Bishop Adetiloye and many top members of the Anglican Church came. None, no one took water. The question of donation was unthinkable. No one ate.

The Anglican Church only asked the town to donate land and that it would be used for farming in memory of my father and that the proceeds would go to the community: When humanity was Godly. In the whole town, no flame was seen spiral from the backyard all day. They didnt cook and they had self imposed fasting.

It was a collective soul lost.

Today, people die at 40, 50, 60 and in the midst of mourning, we throw parties, blow trumpet and celebrate with the harp and lire.

Our society has lost its soul. This drift is what we expect the church to reclaim.

What happened on that day in the Anglican Church, I mean in this particular instance, was PROFIT BEFORE FAITH; MONEY BEFORE HUMANITY.

The Church in its response said the woman died at 60,
and so what? Is 60 the ripe age to convert mourning into a bazzar?

Why turn the gnashing of teeth of family members, the event of agony and pain, into fund raising.?

It shows the end of the humanity in us. We presently cry from the anguish of unbridled Government and corporate greed and bloody exploitation of the long suffering people of Nigeria, we mourn the flight of affection and care, of profiteers from the afflictions of the people; we stand in awe at the upturn of virtues and the glorification of the beast in every human, the crowning of unethical behavior in high and low places. The results have been violence and the nurturing of a jungle society where survival lay in the hands of brutes, the honest and the meek suffer.

The Church should be the revival, to attone our sins and bring back the floundering moral fortunes of the country so that righteousness can be exalted.

Reverse is the case in this instance of the Anglican Church at Ise. This may not represent the philosophy of the Anglican Church in whole, but this particular case and the official attempt to defend the rot, to veil this crime with iron seal, gives us more logic to suspect the infection is spreading within the Anglican dominion.

The Anglican Church even said she, the late woman, was not a member of the Church, yet they collected her money, from mourners.

The Alta of God has been turned into the slaughter of God’s children; A moment of misery for mankind has been turned and exploited by this Church and converted into Automatic Teller Machine, ATM and Point of Sale (POS)

The Anglican Church in Ise should apologise for this sin against the living and the dead, this shameful sin against the Angels.

In other countries, with high moral grounds, this issue would not be treated as a private affair because the Church performs public functions.

The Pastor would be arrested for corrupting the values of the society.

That the Anglican Church could defend the commercialisation of the burial of this woman shows the existence of a cartel that profits from the agony of the dead and their families, in the hierarchy of Anglican Christiandom.

Its unfortunate that some Nigerians find excuses for extremely bad behavior once it affects their faith
(Denomination) or ethnicity.

We cannot change our country and put her on the path of honour, prosperity and moral fame, when the sanctuary of His Holiness has been ruined by greed and turned into the sacred temple of Mammon, the false god of riches
