Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire outbreak that affected several shops at Sawmill Abaletu, along Saki Road in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

Akinwande said the fire, which started around 3:54 a.m., affected three shops, while firemen were able to save seven other shops and nearby properties.

“No life was lost in the incident,” Akinwande confirmed.

He explained that the fire started after a phone repairer allegedly left one of his devices plugged in and unattended, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

“The firemen, led by ACFS Azeez, quickly swung into action upon arrival and succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading further,” he added.

Akinwande stressed that the incident could have been avoided if proper precautions had been taken, urging residents to always turn off electrical appliances before closing for the day.

The Oyo State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly to emergencies and educating the public on fire safety measures.
