Protesters at governor’s office victims of job scam, Ondo Govt clarifies

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Government has clarified that those who staged a protest at the Governor’s Office in Akure over alleged exclusion from a recruitment exercise are not teachers but job applicants who fell victim to fraudsters.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Friday disclosed that the protesters were duped by individuals who collected money from them and issued fake appointment letters.
“Please note that those who protested are not teachers but applicants who were duped by some individuals during the recruitment process.
“They all paid money to scammers who issued them fake letters of appointment,” Adeniyan stated.
Earlier, the protesters had stormed the Governor’s Office demanding inclusion in the ongoing capturing exercise for newly recruited teachers being conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
They claimed to have been left out despite presenting appointment letters purportedly issued by SUBEB and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
An eyewitness said, “The affected members of the newly recruited teachers in Ondo State are protesting their disengagement from the capturing exercise due to backdoorappointment letters issued to them by unscrupulous directors of the personnel at SUBEB and TESCOM offices.”
The government, however, maintained that the genuine recruitment exercise is being handled transparently and urged applicants to be wary of fraudsters exploiting the process.
