Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended his warm greetings to Muslim faithful as they commence the holy month of Ramadan, urging Nigerians, particularly Lagos residents, to embrace compassion, generosity, and unity during the fasting season.

In a statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Ramadan as a sacred period for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness. He emphasized the significance of the season, which coincides with the Christian Lenten fast, as an opportunity for people of different faiths to promote peace and harmony.

“Ramadan Kareem to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. This sacred month is a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness. May your fasting and prayers bring you peace, prosperity, and abundant blessings,” he said.

“As we embrace the values of compassion, unity, and generosity, let us uplift one another and extend love to those in need. Lagos is home to all, and in this season of devotion, we pray for continued progress and harmony in our state and beyond.”

Speaking at a Special Ramadan Prayer held at the Lagos House Mosque Ground in Ikeja on Friday evening, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to let the spirit of the season reflect in their relationships and daily interactions.

“Ramadan is a period of holiness, a time for self-reflection and strengthening one’s faith. It is also a period for constant dialogue with God,” he said.

“As a people, we must continue to uphold the peace and harmony that Lagos is known for. This is a time to come together in prayers and supplications and to do what is right.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu further noted the unique timing of the fasting seasons for both Muslims and Christians, emphasizing the need for religious tolerance and unity.

“Coincidentally, March 1 marks the beginning of a new month, and Christian faithful will also commence their fasting next Wednesday, March 5. We must all strive to live in peace and harmony,” he added.

He called on residents to embody the true essence of Ramadan and Lent by fostering understanding, kindness, and mutual respect, ensuring that the values of the season strengthen the bonds of unity in Lagos and beyond.
