Regimes of volatile, unstable economy now over, says VP Shettima

By Kunle Sanni –

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has affirmed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has successfully ended the era of volatility and unpredictability that once characterized Nigeria’s economy.

Declaring open the Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition 2025 in Abuja on Tuesday, the Vice President said the government’s bold economic reforms are restoring stability, building investor confidence, and earning global recognition.

According to Senator Shettima, global economic shifts and technological disruptions have compelled Nigeria to act decisively. “What this administration has achieved is to end the regimes of volatility and unpredictability that once defined our economy,” he said. “The phase before us now is to ensure that these macroeconomic gains trickle down to the people — from the kiosks of our neighborhood traders to the boardrooms of our multinational corporations.”

He noted that recent upgrades of Nigeria’s sovereign rating by Fitch (to B with a stable outlook) and Moody’s (to B3 with a stable outlook) reflect international confidence in the country’s steady economic course.

“We can no longer apply 20th-century solutions to 21st-century problems,” the Vice President declared, describing the conference as an “affirmation of innovation for a sustainable digital future that accelerates growth, inclusion, and global competitiveness.”

Senator Shettima stated that the conference theme, “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future: Accelerating Growth, Inclusion, and Global Competitiveness,” aligns with President Tinubu’s reform agenda to position young Nigerians at the forefront of national development.

“The future we are building is one where young Nigerians take the front seat, sit at the decision-making table, and have a voice in shaping our destiny,” he said.

Emphasizing that “the watchword for Nigeria’s long-term stability is digital,” the Vice President emphasized the need to move beyond “quick wins” and invest in deep-tech solutions that address fundamental challenges in agriculture, health, logistics, and governance.
