The family of a 45-year-old woman, Mary Adeuyan, who died shortly after giving birth to quintuplets in Akure, Ondo State, has appealed for urgent assistance from the government and the public.

Relatives of the deceased disclosed that her death has left them devastated and created uncertainty over the survival and welfare of the five newborns.

According to the family, the pregnancy was achieved through IVF, with the late Adeuyan said to have maintained regular antenatal visits without major health concerns.

Speaking on the development, the elder sister of the deceased, Mrs Olusola Akinola, revealed that the burden of caring for the babies has become overwhelming for the family, adding that their father does not have the financial capacity to take care of five babies at once.

She further called on government agencies, corporate bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to support the family in raising the children so that the babies can survive and have a future.

Recounting the events leading to her sister’s death, Akinola said the deceased appeared stable before the delivery and had even communicated with her shortly before the procedure.

She explained that the family initially rejoiced after being informed that the delivery was successful; however, the mood changed unexpectedly upon receiving news of her death.

“We were celebrating and thanking God after the babies were delivered, but by the time I returned from getting drugs, she was no longer responding. That was how we lost her,” she said.
