The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a man abducted by gunmen along the Ifira–Isua Akoko Road in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.

The rescue was confirmed in a statement dated January 8, 2026, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

The victim, identified as Jimoh Isah, was kidnapped on Wednesday, January 7, at about 4:10 p.m. while riding a motorcycle with his wife and child along the Ifira–Isua Akoko axis.

According to the police, the attackers, numbering four, ambushed the family, abducted Isah and abandoned his wife, child and a physically challenged man at the scene.

Following a distress report to the Isua Divisional Police Headquarters, operatives were immediately mobilised in collaboration with local non-state actors to comb surrounding forests and possible escape routes.

The sustained operation reportedly forced the suspects to abandon the victim, who was later rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their swift response and assured residents of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
