Remo Stars clinch first NPFL title on club president’s 59th birthday

Remo Stars made it a day of double celebration as they secured their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes — fittingly on the 59th birthday of club president, Chief Kunle Soname.
In a tense and thrilling encounter at Ikenne, Adedayo Olamilekan etched his name into Remo Stars’ history forever. In the 84th minute, he unleashed an unstoppable rocket into the net, sending the home crowd into wild jubilation.
The goal not only secured all three points but also mathematically clinched the league title, fulfilling a dream season for the Sky Blue Stars.
It was a script written perfectly: a birthday gift of the highest order for Chief Kunle Soname, the man who founded and nurtured Remo Stars from humble beginnings to the very summit of Nigerian football.
Remo Stars have now officially etched their name into NPFL history.
With three matches left in the season, the Sky Blue Stars have an unassailable lead and could be handed the trophy during their final home game against Ikorodu City.
In other Matchday 35 games, Abia Warriors beat embattled Shooting Stars 3-1; Rangers dropped all points at home for the sixth time after being edged 1-0 by Enyimba; Akwa United eased their relegation worries with a 2-1 win over Ikorodu City; and Bayelsa United were 2-1 victors over El-Kanemi Warriors.
In Ijebu-Ode, Sunshine Stars defeated Katsina United 2-0, while Nasarawa United pipped Heartland 1-0 in Gombe. Plateau United won 2-1 against Bendel Insurance, and Kwara United walloped already-relegated Lobi Stars 4-0.
