A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero, has proposed the creation of a new state to be known as Ose State, with the bill passing its first reading on the floor of the House.

The proposed legislation, titled “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2025,” was introduced during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Ehindero, who represents Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State and chairs the House Committee on Students Loan, Scholarships, and Higher Education Financing, is the sponsor of the bill.

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Blessing Akeju, the proposed Ose State would be carved out of Ondo North Senatorial District and consist of 28 local government areas, with Ikare-Akoko as its capital.

Speaking after the session, Ehindero described the move as a response to longstanding calls for improved political representation and regional development.

“This bill is not just about boundary redefinition. It is about economic justice, political fairness, and empowering communities that have been historically underrepresented,” he stated.

Ehindero also called on indigenes and residents of the proposed Ose State to support the effort and lend their voices to what he described as a “noble cause.”
