Resident doctors at FMC Owo set to join nationwide NARD strike

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Resident doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Ondo State, have declared their readiness to join the nationwide strike scheduled to commence on Monday, as they urged the federal government to urgently address their demands to avert a collapse of healthcare services.
The doctors, under the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the centre, said the decision followed unresolved issues with the federal government.
The planned industrial action was announced by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to compel the federal government to honour agreements previously reached with its members.
The strike follows the government’s alleged failure to implement a Memorandum of Understanding signed with resident doctors in November 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of ARD-FMC Owo, Dr Dada Tosin, said the decision to participate in the strike was reached after an emergency meeting held on Friday.
He noted that the association had earlier issued a four-week ultimatum to the federal government to meet the agreed demands, but the deadline expired without significant compliance.
The doctors warned that the strike would be total unless issues bordering on unpaid arrears, poor welfare, training challenges, and other outstanding demands were addressed.
