Rise above mediocrity, VC urges graduates of Redeemer’s University

The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, charged the graduating students of the institution to rise above mediocrity and become beacons of hope in society.

Speaking at the 16th convocation ceremony of the institution on Thursday, Akindele emphasized the importance of innovation, ethical leadership, and compassion in these challenging times.

According to him, “Our society is in need of innovative solutions, ethical leadership, and compassionate hearts. In this time of uncertainty and change, you are called to rise above mediocrity and shine as beacons of light and hope. You have been equipped for this, and you will conquer in Jesus’ name. The knowledge and skills you have acquired here will equip you to lead in diverse fields.”

Akindele said that a total of 1,055 undergraduate students were graduating from the university, out of which 83 made first class, 435 in the second class (upper division), 319 in the second class (lower division), 86 in the third class category, and 13 with a pass.

In the nursing and physiotherapy programs, the VC said three students graduated with “pass with distinction,” 69 with “pass with credit,” and 25 with “pass.”

He also said that in the diploma category, three students graduated with distinction, 14 in the upper credit division, and five in the lower credit division.

Akindele further stated that at the postgraduate level, 33 graduated with PhDs, three with MPhils, 215 with master’s degrees, and 137 at the postgraduate diploma level.

“A total of 387 postgraduate students will graduate during this convocation,” he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, Pastor Olukayode Pitan, advised the graduating students to do good and honor their parents, the university, and God.

“Remember the good names of your parents, the university, as well as the holy name of God that you bear. Always remember to do good to your source and the channels from which you emerged—your parents and the university,” he said.

Two eminent personalities were awarded honorary degrees in recognition of their remarkable contributions to their respective fields.
