Rivers Crisis: Wike carpets Edwin Clark over call for arrest

…says Makinde, others nominated candidates for ministerial positions

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has finally broken silence over calls for his prosecution following threat to put fire in some states.

Speaking at an interview on Channels TV Politics Today Program on Friday, Wike hits back at calls for his arrest over his statement as demanded by prominent Nigerian leader, Edwin Clark.

“I have always tried not to respond to Papa Edwin Clark. They know I’m human. Edwin Clark is not fair. Edwin Clark does not love Rivers state. He is not from Rivers state. He is from Delta state for crying out loud.

“We are even talking about PDP. Is he a member of PDP? Let me see his membership card. Let me see what he contributed to PDP. Let me see how much he has given to fight for PDP to win in Rivers least to talk about another party in Delta.” He said.

On his said disturbing statement, Wike maintained his stance as he stressed that ‘heaven will never fall’

“I repeat without apology to anybody anywhere. For crying out loud, heaven will never fall. If I want heaven fall, there will be peace. You mean as I sit as Minister of Federal Capital Territory. From Rivers state, I was a governor. The only person I can say I have no relationship with, I never knew about his election is the governor of Zamfara. I don’t know him. If I see him now, I don’t know him.

“All other governors, I know them and they know me. We have a relationship.” Wike said

He, however, said is reaction was as a result of alleged attempt by the PDP governors to stir political crisis in Rivers.

“You mean that you want to violate the processes, the constitution of our party. You came out on a national television after your meeting led by the governor of Bauchi state, the Chairman of the Governorship Forum.

“You came out to read a communique that they are going to make sure that their brother, their friend in Rivers state will take over the structure – it doesn’t matter whether it is illegal.

“And I’m sitting as the Minister of FCT from that state. You think that there is nobody in state and you make such a statement. And I should sit down and fold my hands because you are a governor? And you expect me to say everything will be well?

“They are trying to cause political crisis in my state! What do you expect me to do?

“All I’m saying is you don’t want my state to be politically stable. You want to illegally interfere in constitutionally recognized institution. Who told you I don’t have the capacity in my state to say you too will have that crisis in your states?” He added.

Meanwhile, when asked of his political status with claims of him being an outsider due to his ministerial role under APC leadership, Wike affirmed his stand in the PDP, stressing that he wrote to PDP before accepting the ministerial appointment.

“Nobody born of a woman can say I am an outsider. Before I took this appointment, I wrote to PDP National, PDP Zonal, and PDP in my state. My governor also signed the letter that I should take the appointment. The zonal party wrote that I should accept. Who in PDP did not nominate names for appointment? They did! Let them come to say they did not do it.” Wike added.
