Rivers elders urge unity after Supreme Court verdict

The Rivers State Elders Council has congratulated the people of Rivers State following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the state’s political crisis, delivered on Friday.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, the council commended the resilience, patience, and peaceful conduct of Rivers people throughout the legal battles leading up to the ruling.
“Now that the Supreme Court has spoken unequivocally on all matters, we strongly believe that nothing should stand in the way of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Speaker Martin Amaewhule working together in the best interest of the state and its people,” the statement read.
The council urged Governor Fubara and Speaker Amaewhule, both from the same political family, to prioritize the state’s welfare over personal or political differences.
“We call on the Governor and the Speaker to put Rivers State above all other considerations and urgently take all necessary steps in line with their constitutional responsibilities,” the elders advised.
Expressing optimism for a new era of peace, the elders thanked God Almighty for what they described as a “unique opening for peace” in Rivers State.
