Rivers gov’t denies claims of shutting down NNPCL operations

The Rivers State Government has officially refuted circulating reports claiming that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and all oil companies operating in the state.

In a statement signed by Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the government described the report as “false” and “propagandist,” asserting it was fabricated by individuals with malicious intent.

The unfounded claims, which gained traction on social media, allegedly originated from an unverified source.

Governor Fubara, according to the statement, remains dedicated to lawful governance and does not endorse “unconventional or crude methods” in handling administrative matters.

The government has urged residents of Rivers State and Nigerians at large to disregard the “fake report,” emphasizing that at no point did Governor Fubara contemplate or issue such an order that would disrupt the state’s economy.
