Rivers LG Polls: Fubara absent as low voter turnout mars polling units

It appears the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalaye Fubara, did not show up at his polling unit at Ward 5 in Opobo Nkoro community of the state.

In a video on the Facebook page of the NTA Network News, the reporter, Gabrielle Amunike, reported that the suspended governor did not participate in the election process.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike,  cast his ballot around 11: 15 am in Rumepirikom, Ward 9, Unit 007, Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of the State.

After casting his ballot, the minister hailed the conduct of the exercise, described it as peaceful and also dismissed concerns over the non-usage of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the election.

Some traders and shop owners in Obio/Akpor area of Rivers, in defiance of the state government’s no-movement directive during the local government council elections, opened for business.

They cited economic hardship and survival concerns as reasons for opening their businesses despite the ban.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government declared emergency rule in March 2025 for six months suspending the governor, deputy governor and the House of Assembly.

The president went on to appoint Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired) as the sole administrator of the state for an interim period of six months.
