Rivers United face Pyramids, Berkane in tough CAF Champions League group

Nigeria’s flagbearers, Rivers United, have been drawn into what many consider the group of death in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, following Monday’s draw in Johannesburg.
The Pride of Rivers will face reigning champions Pyramids FC of Egypt, Morocco’s RS Berkane, and Zambia’s Power Dynamos in a mouth-watering Group A that promises fireworks from the first whistle.
For Rivers United, it’s a golden opportunity to test their mettle against Africa’s finest. Pyramids and Berkane — recent winners of the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively — will renew their fierce continental rivalry, while Rivers United aim to crash their party.
Finidi George’s side have steadily climbed the continental ladder in recent seasons, and this draw hands them a massive stage to prove they can compete with Africa’s elite.
Their clashes with Berkane and Pyramids will not only test their tactical strength but also serve as a measure of Nigerian club football’s resurgence on the continental scene.
The group stage kicks off between November 21 and 23, with two rounds scheduled before the AFCON Morocco 2025 break. Action resumes in January 2026, and the stakes couldn’t be higher — with the eventual champions set to pocket $4 million in prize money.
Rivers United’s message is clear: they are not in this group to make up the numbers.
