RMAFC, Solid Minerals Ministry launch new data template to boost revenue transparency

By Kunle Sanni –

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has unveiled a new data rendition template aimed at strengthening revenue monitoring and transparency in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

The initiative was formally introduced during a one-day sensitisation workshop held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of RMAFC, Dr. Muhammed Bello Shehu (OFR), represented by the Chairman of the Commission’s Solid Minerals Monitoring Committee, said the new template aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), which seeks to diversify Nigeria’s economy and expand revenue streams beyond oil.

“The implementation of the new data rendition template could not have come at a better time, given the current economic realities. The need to diversify our national revenue sources cannot be overemphasized,” Dr. Shehu stated.

“Nigeria’s overdependence on hydrocarbon revenues—often disrupted by fluctuations in global oil prices and issues like crude oil theft—makes it imperative that we harness the solid minerals sector more effectively.”

Dr. Shehu noted that RMAFC had previously conducted two nationwide monitoring exercises in 2016 and 2022, which helped improve revenue generation from the sector. However, he lamented that remittances to the Federation Account remained low due to weak oversight and monitoring.

He assured that under his leadership, the Commission would intensify efforts to ensure that all revenues due from mining operations are fully and promptly remitted to the Federation Account.

In his remarks, Hon. Ibrahim Shettima, Chairman of the Solid Minerals Monitoring Committee and Federal Commissioner representing Niger State, said the new system would close existing data gaps and ensure timely, accurate reporting of revenues on a state-by-state basis.
