Rotary commissions solar-powered borehole in Osunte, Offa

The Rotary Club of Offa Cosmopolitan has commissioned a new solar-powered motorised borehole in the Osunte area of Offa, Kwara State, bringing clean and sustainable water to the community. The project, inaugurated yesterday, is aimed at providing a consistent and reliable source of safe water, improving the health and living standards of residents.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, representatives of Rotary International Districts 5170 and 9125, along with The Rotary Foundation, commended the successful completion of the project, describing it as a step toward eradicating water scarcity in rural communities. The project, they noted, reflects Rotary’s global commitment to promoting health, dignity, and economic development through sustainable water solutions.

The Rotary Club of Ilorin, led by its president, Rotarian Baraje A. Abiodun, PHF, received special recognition for its consistent support and collaboration on community-based projects. The club’s contributions were praised as a true reflection of Rotary’s guiding principle.

WESTERN POST reports that community leaders of Osunte expressed profound gratitude to Rotary International for the intervention, noting that access to clean water had long been a challenge for the area. They described the project as a major relief that would reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases and ease the daily struggle of fetching water from distant sources.

Also present at the ceremony was the Chairman of Offa Local Government, Rotarian Olatunji Suleiman Omituntun, who commended the Rotary Club’s commitment to community development. He pledged the council’s continued support for projects that enhance the welfare of residents and promote sustainable living.

Members of the Rotary Club of Offa Cosmopolitan, joined by guests from Ilorin and neighbouring districts, graced the occasion in large numbers. The commissioning was marked by excitement and appreciation, as the community celebrated a project that promises to transform lives and build a healthier, brighter future for generations to come.
