Royal drummers relocate to Ladoja’s residence following Olubadan’s passing

Following the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, the traditional royal drummers have relocated to the Bodija residence of High Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan and next in line to the throne.
The symbolic move occurred shortly after news broke on Monday about the passing of Oba Olakulehin. In line with long-standing tradition, the drummers—key cultural figures in Ibadan’s royal heritage—immediately shifted their allegiance and presence to the home of the expected successor.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, holds the position of Otun Olubadan, placing him at the top of the succession line according to the established hierarchical structure of the Olubadan chieftaincy system.
This cultural transition mirrors a similar event in March 2024, when royal drummers moved to the Alalubosa residence of Oba Olakulehin following the death of Oba Lekan Balogun.
Born on September 25, 1944, Oba Ladoja now awaits formal nomination by the Olubadan-in-Council. Once confirmed, the council will present him as the Olubadan-designate to the Oyo State Government for official ratification and the presentation of the staff of office.
