Sadiq Khan visits Nike Art Gallery, hails Lagos as cultural powerhouse

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has described Lagos and London as two of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world, highlighting the role of art and creativity in shaping their global identities.

Khan made the remark during a visit to the Nike Art Gallery in Lagos, one of Nigeria’s foremost centres for visual arts.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the mayor praised the gallery as a “hub for preserving Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage and empowering a new generation of creatives.”

“London and Lagos are two of the most culturally dynamic cities in the world,” Khan wrote. “Fantastic to see Nike Art Gallery while in Lagos.”

Nike Art Gallery, founded by renowned artist and entrepreneur Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye, is one of the largest of its kind in West Africa.

It showcases a diverse collection of traditional and contemporary Nigerian art and serves as a training ground for emerging artists.
