An Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a salesgirl, Gift Okoye, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly diverting N3.6 million belonging to her employer.
The Ondo State Police Command arraigned Okoye before the court for alleged fraud.
According to the prosecutor, Augustine Omhenimhen, the alleged offence took place between June 2024 and June 2025 at Oja Oba Market in Akure, where the defendant worked as a sales representative.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant unlawfully converted N3,636,900 belonging to John Vents Food Limited, represented by one Favour Omoregie, to her personal use.
Okoye pleaded not guilty to the allegation. The prosecutor informed the court that witnesses were ready to testify and requested an adjournment to review the case file.
Defence counsel, Abikemo Adedamola, prayed the court to grant bail on lenient terms, assuring that the defendant would not abscond and would provide reliable sureties.
In his ruling, Magistrate O.T. Lebi granted a N500,000 bond with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are to present affidavits of means, two passport photographs each, proof of employment, and other relevant documents attached to the bail bond.
Okoye was, however, remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions. The case was adjourned to December 4, 2025, for hearing.
