Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday encouraged Lagos State public servants to strive for excellence, urging them to maintain the state’s public service as the best in Nigeria.
The governor delivered the charge during the Mr. Governor’s Luncheon with Outstanding Officers (Junior and Senior Categories) held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa.
The event, organized by the Office of the Head of Service, marked the conclusion of the 2024 Lagos State Public Service Week.
Sanwo-Olu commended the workers for their dedication and highlighted the Lagos public service as a benchmark for other states. He also emphasized the need for continuous improvement.
“We are the envy of every state in the country. We have the best civil service in Nigeria. However, we cannot rest on our laurels or be satisfied with past achievements. We must rededicate ourselves to excellence and remain ahead. Let us strive to be outstanding in everything we do,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Head of Service (HOS), Olabode Agoro, stated that the luncheon and award ceremony were designed to recognize exceptional officers across the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
Agoro expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing workers’ welfare, citing the implementation of minimum wage, a 100% salary increment for December 2024, and other incentives.
He also noted that the Public Service Week featured various activities, including press conferences, free medical screenings for public servants, and public lectures.
A total of 271 nominations were received for the awards, but 210 officers were ultimately selected.
During a raffle draw conducted at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu presented prizes to the winners. Six senior staff members won cars in the senior staff category. The winners included Folarin Timothy, Saliu Oluwasegun, Ojedele Idayat, Opeoluwa Moshood, Ogunade Ahmed, and Adeleye Saidat.
In the junior staff category, five employees won ₦5 million each, while an additional 11 workers received ₦100,000 each.
