Sanwo-Olu hails PSSDC for producing world-class public servants

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the management of the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) for producing world-class civil servants through its training and developmental curriculum.

The governor spoke at the 30th anniversary celebration of the centre, held in Lagos on Friday.

PSSDC is a Lagos State-owned training institute under the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, established in 1994 to train the state’s civil servants.

While speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu recalled that while he was serving as the Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions, there were attempts by some residents to take over the land on which the centre was built. However, the government stood its ground and ensured the land was used for its intended purpose.

He added that the centre has been consistent and perseverant in developing public servants in the state.

“I am impressed with the serenity and ambience of this place. The centre has developed programs and curricula vital for public service. It is an institute we can be proud of as a learning base. PSSDC has a bright future that will make it the best institute. PSSDC has survived and will continue to thrive,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He promised that his administration would continue to ensure public servants are trained and developed. He also urged civil servants to embrace continuous learning.

“Learning and development are what we will continue to promote. We should never stop learning. I thank the management of PSSDC; the future is bright for you,” he added.

The Director-General of PSSDC, Adekunmilola Moses, said a lot of developments had taken place at the centre in the last 30 years, including the establishment of a virtual learning centre, the construction of nine classrooms for Computer-Based Testing (CBT), the digitalisation of processes, and the building of a football pitch, basketball, handball, and badminton courts. There are also plans to build a swimming pool by 2025.

He noted that training at the centre is available not only for Lagos State staff but also for private sector organisations.

The DG commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for supporting the centre, from his time as Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions to his tenure as governor.

“The governor has been playing a supportive role since his time as Commissioner, and he has not looked back since then. He has set us on the right path to becoming a world-class centre, like those in Singapore and other countries, and we are benefiting from it. PSSDC is the hope for public servants and Lagos State,” he said.
