Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said Lagos State will support the growth of Africa’s gaming industry to make it globally competitive.
He made this known on Wednesday at the 2026 African Gaming Expo held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the gaming sector is undergoing major transformation across Africa, explaining that the industry, which was once informal and poorly structured, is now becoming organised, regulated and attractive to global investors.
Sanwo-Olu said government policies, innovation and investment are helping to reshape the sector and improve transparency, adding that the gaming industry now connects with technology, digital finance, sports and youth development, making it an important driver of economic growth.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority, Bashir Are, said the expo aims to position Africa in the global gaming market and create opportunities for related industries.
In his keynote address, the founder of Merbert Global Launchpad, Peter Mebert, urged African startups to take advantage of improved infrastructure and talent to expand globally, describing gaming as a fast-growing industry with strong potential.
