Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday performed the groundbreaking of a 2,200-unit housing scheme for the planned Police Barracks, Ijeh, Obalende.

Speaking during the event at the Police Barracks at Obalende, Lagos Island, Sanwo-Olu said that the proposed Police Housing Estate, when completed, will be in different categories of one, two, three and four bedroom units with sewage tanks, street lights, car parks and electrification plants, among others.

The governor said the project is part of the redevelopment and regeneration efforts of his administration in line with the THEMES+ Developmental Agenda.

Stating that it is to bridge housing deficit in the state, which is a testament of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the residents, Sanwo-Olu added that it is in tandem with the administration’s agenda to provide affordable housing units for all residents of the state.

He also assured that the project would be completed in the next two years to ensure Police officers in Lagos live in a conducive and comfortable environment to discharge their duties efficiently.

The governor assured the IGP that they would come for inspection so that the project would be handed over during his tenure.

He noted that the government is committed to building a Lagos that works for all.

Earlier in his remarks, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, acknowledged the dilapidated state of the baracks buildings, adding that they were constructed over 50 years ago.

While commending Lagos State government for various initiatives aimed at boosting the morale of security personnel in the state, Egbetokun expressed optimism that the new Police housing units would motivate officers to serve Lagos residents more efficiently.
