Sanwo-Olu reaffirms Lagos’ commitment to blue economy development

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to harnessing the state’s waterways for innovation, growth, and long-term prosperity through the development of a sustainable blue economy.
Speaking at the African Blue Economy Summit: Lagos 2025, held on Friday at Azuri Towers, Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, the governor said Lagos is determined to integrate sustainability, climate adaptation, and economic development into its long-term vision.
The summit, themed “Harnessing Africa’s Blue Natural Capital for Sustainable Growth”, brought together key stakeholders to explore opportunities within Africa’s marine and water-based resources.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos is uniquely positioned to lead Africa in sustainable marine development, citing ongoing investments in water transportation, maritime infrastructure, and climate adaptation initiatives.
He explained that the state is leveraging the ongoing E1 Lagos GP Championship to promote a climate-conscious ecosystem that is bold and innovative, while creating an environment that fosters leadership in the economy, entertainment, innovation, and technology.
According to him, such platforms not only provide an electrifying atmosphere but also serve as a launchpad for policies and projects that align with global sustainability goals.
The governor stressed that building a resilient blue economy remains central to Lagos’ growth strategy, adding that the state will continue to drive policies and partnerships that unlock opportunities in marine resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
