Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday received the Premier League Trophy at the Lagos House, Marina, pledging continued support for sports as a tool for youth engagement, social inclusion, and development.
The trophy was officially presented by the Managing Director/CEO of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Girish Sharma, who commended the governor for his administration’s strides in promoting sports and creating an enabling environment for businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu expressed delight over the visit, describing the trophy as symbolic and inspirational. He said sports have become a key avenue for empowering the youth and fostering unity and positive change across communities.

“We’re excited that Guinness has brought the Premier League Trophy to Lagos. This represents the passion and enthusiasm Lagosians have for sports. It’s about connecting with our youth and using sports to identify talent and promote social responsibility,” he said.
The governor also used the occasion to highlight the importance of maintaining a business-friendly environment. He assured corporate organisations like Guinness Nigeria of the government’s continued support to ensure Lagos remains a prime destination for investment.

Sanwo-Olu further called on international football clubs to consider visiting Lagos during their summer breaks, noting that fans in the state are eager to interact with their favourite players. “We don’t bite, we’re just fans who want to take selfies and share the passion for the game,” he joked.
In his remarks, Sharma applauded the Lagos State Government’s support for business growth and sports development. He noted that bringing the Premier League Trophy to Lagos would allow football enthusiasts to connect more closely with the sport they love.
The Guinness Nigeria CEO also restated the company’s commitment to Nigeria and Lagos in particular, encouraging Nigerians to believe in the country’s potential and capacity for greatness.
