Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, announcing the commissioning of 29 roads across Lagos State in the last seven weeks.
He made this statement during the commissioning of the Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru/Akiogun Road, an alternative route to the Admiralty Circle Plaza and Abudu Smith Street in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

In his address, Sanwo-Olu said, “Earlier today, we handed over a road called Abudu Smith, also in Victoria Island, just a few kilometers away from here. This is a very strategic route within the Femi Piers and Adeola Odeku areas, connecting these two routes.
“This project is yet another milestone in our administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering life-changing infrastructure that improves the quality of life for our citizens and strengthens the socio-economic power of our people.”
“We believe this alternative route will not only make life more meaningful but will also be very strategic for the people in this community. We believe it will reduce travel time, decrease congestion, improve the quality of life for citizens, and bring about socio-economic benefits.

“Since the third week of December, when we began our road commissioning across different parts of the state, we have handed over 29 roads in Kosofe, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Eti-Osa, particularly the Iru-Obalende side.”
“We have also been to Alimosho, Ikeja, and Amuwo. Now, we begin the second phase in Eti-Osa. By the grace of God, we still have plans to extend our work to Badagry, Kosofe, Agege, and Alimosho.”
Sanwo-Olu also noted that his administration plans to commission more roads across the state, with 15 to 17 routes at various stages of completion.
“No matter your economic status or where you are located in the state, we aim to leave no one behind. That’s why we’re focusing on areas like Ibeju-Lekki and Badagry.
“This development is our direct intervention to ensure that the socio-economic benefits for our citizens improve, the quality of life improves, travel times are reduced, and the overall livability of our city and state is enhanced.”
“We will stop at nothing to ensure that we achieve all of this for you. You can see that this road is not just a first-class road; it’s a key connector, and we’re seeing it work almost in tandem with what the President is doing for us on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which is just a few kilometers away.”
Sanwo-Olu also mentioned that the Green Line Rail will commence before the end of 2025, with further expansions along the Lekki Expressway.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat for their commitment to infrastructure development in Lagos State.
He explained that the project aligns with ongoing infrastructural regeneration efforts in Victoria Island and reinforces the state government’s commitment to building a well-structured and accessible road network in Lagos.
Daramola added, “The benefits of this road rehabilitation are multifaceted. Beyond significantly reducing travel time and improving road safety, it will enhance the overall commuting experience while positively impacting property values and economic activities within this corridor.”
