Sanwo-Olu seeks federal partnership to tackle environmental challenges in Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with key stakeholders to address pressing climate, environmental, and waste management challenges facing the state.

During a weekend meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds, led by its Chairman, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, at the Lagos House in Marina, Sanwo-Olu assured the committee that Lagos would utilize and account responsibly for ecological funds and other federal support provided to address these issues.

“We don’t just want help; we want partnership,” Sanwo-Olu said, emphasizing the broader impact of solving Lagos’ environmental problems. “By addressing these issues, you’re not just solving Lagos’ problems; you’re helping all of Nigeria, as Lagos is home to representatives from every ethnic group.”

The governor urged timely completion of environmental interventions to avoid additional costs, stressing that projects must reach full completion to deliver real value. “A job that is 80 percent done is not done. It’s only when it’s 100 percent that we can say it is done,” he noted.

Hon. Jaji, in response, pledged the committee’s commitment to securing significant federal support for Lagos, highlighting the urgent need to address the state’s ecological and environmental challenges.

“We have seen firsthand the challenges Lagos faces, and they need to be addressed permanently with the Federal Government’s intervention,” Jaji stated, commending the Lagos State Government’s capacity to manage such issues effectively.

The committee chairman assured that they would work to ensure proper utilization of ecological funds, expressing confidence that substantial federal interventions would soon be allocated to Lagos.
