Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, charged heads of government agencies and parastatals to renew their commitment to making Lagos not only Nigeria’s commercial hub but also a model of good governance and sustainable development for the continent.

Speaking through the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, at the closing ceremony of the maiden retreat for agency heads held at Jubilee Chalet, Epe, the governor emphasized the need for unwavering focus on delivering exceptional results.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your tireless dedication and service to the people of Lagos. This retreat is a crucial opportunity for us to pause, assess our progress, and re-evaluate our priorities to ensure we are effectively achieving meaningful outcomes for our community,” he said.

He reiterated that good governance is a continuous process, with the ultimate objective of transforming Lagos into a 21st-century economy that is inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable for all. He also stressed that the decisions made today will have lasting consequences for the future.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved governance, noting that the Lagos Smart City initiative is actively being implemented.

He stated that the government is digitizing services, implementing e-governance solutions, and ensuring that every agency adopts a modern, data-driven approach to its operations.

He cited the LAG-ID Project as a key initiative aimed at building a unified identity system to enable Lagosians to access government services seamlessly. He urged agency heads to embrace such forward-thinking initiatives across all sectors.

“As heads of agencies, you are custodians of public trust. The decisions you take, the policies you implement, and the services you deliver directly impact the lives of Lagosians.

This is why we cannot afford to be complacent. We must challenge ourselves to think bigger, work smarter, and serve better,” he said.

The governor commended the organizers for creating a platform where agency heads could share insights, challenge assumptions, and enhance service delivery. He emphasized that Lagos, as a dynamic state, demands a proactive and agile approach to governance.

Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that the retreat would provide valuable insights and practical strategies, urging that the ideas exchanged be translated into concrete policies and initiatives that will improve service delivery and governance.

“As you return to your respective agencies, I urge you all to be courageous, proactive, and, most importantly, focused on finding solutions. The people of Lagos are relying on us, and we cannot afford to let them down,” he concluded.

The retreat was attended by all heads of agencies and government parastatals in Lagos State.
